Water for Peru
Water is an indispensable resource for human life. Approximately 5 million people in Peru, or 15 percent of the population, lack access to safe drinking water¹. The Loreto region occupies the northmost third of Peru and is the most linguistically diverse with 27 indigenous languages. In the heart of Loreto’s Amazon, the city of Iquitos impacts hundreds of small villages downstream.
Despite living in a rainforest near the largest river in the world, families lack access to clean and safe drinking water. Water routines include bleaching, boiling, or allowing water to settle. Many children drink directly from open water sources and suffer from parasitic worms.
With an average daily income of $2, providing affordable safe water is paramount in solving this crisis. We provide a comprehensive water program with one of the lowest-cost water purification solutions in the world.

IMPACT
Water for life
The Water for Life program continues to flourish and improve health in the Amazon. The program was established as a long-term investment in our partners and communities.
With the support of individual donors and grants, we are extending the project to reach further into the Amazon with our regional partners to benefit remote communities.
When we began in 2019, the model program included inspections and interviews in 9 villages that validated:
97% of 135 filters to be perfectly or sufficiently functioning after 10 months of use
767 people are filtering a total of 2015 liters daily, or 2.6 liters per person daily
100% informed us that drinking filtered water has entirely removed all incidences of stomach pains and diarrhea
On our latest data gathering, we found that consumption has increased 12.3%.
168 people are filtering a total of 503.5 liters daily or 3 liters per person daily
93.3% of families reported that the filters have improved health
